Sneaker Crazed

Sneakers. Everyone has their favorites. Lace up, high top, you name it. There seems to be more variety in sneakers today (and the ways that they’re styled) than any other time that I can remember. For me, slip ons with a twist are a summer fave. Summers are always busy. You’re working, you’re hanging with friends, you’re out and about by the pool. So, a simple slip on shoe is a NECESSITY. And honestly, sometimes sandals just don’t cut it. Sometimes you want something else. Sometimes your toes aren’t painted and you need to hide them. Anyone else…? These tassel sneakers from J/Slides are kinda saving my life lately. They are a little more sophisticated than a sandal which is perfect for my summer vibes. If you’re on the hunt for some slip on sneaks, these are a great option. They’re my second pair from J/Slides and I have not been disappointed! xoxo, Karlee Shop my look: sneakers | skirt (similar here & here) | tee | vest | clutch | watch

Floral Maxi

There’s been a lot of anticipated change, both in my professional and personal life lately. Where we want to live, what we hope for our careers, etc., etc. So yes, I’ve been a little anxious. Change is good, and we know that these transitions are absolutely for the best. It’s so exciting, but also a little scary. I have big dreams and so does my husband and we both ultimately decided that we need to chase them. It’s now or never! So, with all of these shifts and transformations, I find myself running to catch up. I’m looking forward to a lot, but at the same time I can’t find the time for what is current. What I really need is a renovation of my schedule, but that’s a whole other story… Thankfully, nature has always calmed me down. There’s something about channeling my inner zen that helps me to just breath. Inhale. Exhale. Take a look around. Realize that there’s is a whole world happening outside of your own. At least for me, it helps put things …

Mix & Match Swimmers

Laying by the pool… Now that’s the life! Gosh dang it’s been so miserably hot now that we’re back in Utah. All I wish all day long is that I had a pool to jump into. Annnd the view in Hawaii wasn’t too bad either (wink, wink). My husband and I both snagged our swimsuits from Kortni Jeane and I am so glad we did! I’m always obsessed with the darling mix and match prints that they have… They’re seriously adorable. Not only are they super cute, but the company is local and I love supporting local shops! Hope you’re staying cool in this insane heat! xoxo, Karlee    Shop: My look: top | bottoms | sunglasses His look: shorts | sunglasses

Hawaiian Sun

All I’ve ever wanted on vacation is some nice sunscreen that doesn’t leave me feeling like a gross, oily sweat ball. In Hawaii we laid by the pool, swam in the salty ocean, and adventured around town. I ALWAYS, and I mean always, had my Silk Hydration Sunscreen with me. When I was less diligent in applying, my skin would fry. My smart husband reapplied every hour or so and his skin never turned red. I on the other hand would get distracted, forget to apply and regret it later… Don’t do that! But like I said, it can be such a pain to reapply sunscreen that feels like melted butter on your skin. Meanwhile you’re in the sun so you do actually feel like you’ve been basted and plopped in the oven. No thanks. Nobody wants swass. Nobody wants to feel sticky. Bleh. Unfortunately a lot of sunscreens really do make you feel that way. They smell like baby oil (which isn’t really what you want to smell like), and leave you feeling all greased …

Suede Sneakers

Say hello to summer suede! Although it isn’t typically a summer fabric, I’m seeing it squeeze its way in more and more. I for one like the trend, especially when it comes to suede sneakers. Honestly, it’s only been the last few years that I’ve turned into some sort of sneaker fanatic. My hubby on the other hand has always been sneaker crazed… But, I’ve come to love and adore sneakers and I wear them much more often than in the past. Today’s selection offers a lot more versatility in design and ways to style. True story– Several times when my husband and I were dating, he’d show up at my apartment to take me out and we’d be wearing basically the same outfit. I remember one time specifically, he arrived in a navy and white gingham button down with khaki shorts only to find that I was also wearing a navy and white gingham button down with khaki shorts… Needless to say I had to change my clothes a few times before we went out. In this look, …

Embroidery Meets Denim

If there are two things that are hot this season, it’s embroidery and denim. I for one am stoked about embroidery coming back because I’m super drawn to the detail in pieces (give me all of the embroidery)! This dress is perfect for a swim coverup, plus it’s nice and light for summer weather. And let’s face it, who doesn’t love denim? Espadrilles are also exploding right now (I feel like they’re everywhere) which makes these denim espadrilles a double whammy. Yes, they are a total step up from your average beach shoe, but I feel like they are easy enough for a vacation shoe and elaborate enough for an everyday shoe! Not to mention these babies are on SALE! You can snag em’ for 30% off right now at Franco Sarto. Hooray for the weekend! Only one more day! xoxo, Karlee Shop my look: dress | shoes | sunglasses | tote | keychain

Toes in the Sand

Being from Oregon, I don’t mind the rain. No one carries an umbrella. If it rains, you get wet. Pretty simple. Apart from a few months in the summer, it doesn’t get very warm, so you’re just kind of expected to wear a jacket. Kauai however, is a very different story. Does it rain a lot? You bet, but it’s so warm you can swim and enjoy the rain all at the same time. It’s fabulous. Rain has always reminded me of Oregon, now with the exception of Hawaii rain. There’s no need for a jacket, just a swimsuit, sandals, and perhaps some shorts. In Hawaii, or anywhere else, a beach/pool sandal is a necessity. Something that doesn’t get ruined when wet (so stay far, far away from leather), easy to slip on and off, and something that is really easy to clean. I sort of thought that it was an impossible task, but I’ve been proven wrong! These squishy soft Birkenstocks are waterproof, vegan, and they’re cute! I really love them. Plus they are way …

Tropical View

Looking out at something so big like the ocean makes you feel pretty teeny tiny. It’s amazing and a tad scary all at the same time. Looking at it, it makes sense why people used to believe that the Earth is flat. I can imagine a huge drop off waterfall at the edge just disappearing into space… But like I’ve said before, I have a wild imagination. I also find myself wondering about what kind of deep dark creatures lurk underneath the surface of the sea. Things that I’ll never see and for the most part, probably won’t ever know exist. It’s so fascinating to me! I feel really lucky to have been able to stay where we did in Kauai. It was a tropical haven! We stayed in a big, beautiful house that has one of the most amazing views I’ve ever seen. I could have just sat there and stared for hours. I think that it’s important to have time to stop and clear your mind. To just get away and think you …

Suede Sandals & Summer

Sooo my feet got real burned today. Crispy critters. You know when you look like a lobster and your skin tingles? Ouch. That dang Hawaiian sun! I really can’t complain though. It’s absolutely gorgeous here. Even though my feet feel like they might fall off, I can’t help but enjoy my surroundings. This is the third island that I’ve visited in Hawaii and surely the most beautiful. It’s more lush than I could have ever imagined. I don’t think I’ve ever been anywhere else in the world that’s quite as green. The mountains are breathtaking. Every inch seems to be covered in green, green, green. Also, super nerdy, but Jurassic Park (the classics) were filmed here. I’m not gonna lie, I keep imagining a massive T-Rex emerging from the mountains and roaring to the world… I can’t help it. I have a wild imagination. The house that we stayed in was fabulous (I’ll tell you more about it later). It made me feel very luxurious (which I’m not), but you know what is? These sandals! …

Sleek For Summer

I love, love, love a wedge. If you know me at all, you know that I’m clumsy. I run into walls, I trip over my own feet… It’s bad. I’ve been really trying to wear more heels (and be able to walk in them) and I’m getting better, but wedges are still my safe zone. I still feel super feminine in them, but I don’t look like such a twerp when I walk. Win-win! I am addicted to these black ones from Famous Footwear. Plus, they are on sale for under $30 (woohoo)! I’ve already worn them way too many times. And this time, I wanted to try something a little different. Trying to find that happy medium between a bright, flowy, beach look and a sleek look for summer can be difficult. During summer, bright and flowy is sometimes all there seems to be. Don’t get me wrong, a beach look is totally cute, I’m all about it, but sometimes you just want to mix it up a little. And unfortunately, not all of …
