Back To The Basics

Back To The Basics

The age old dilemma–my closet is full, but I have nothing to wear. Why is it we feel that way? After doing some fashionista introspection, here is what I came up with–we’re bored. We purchase a new item with one glorious outfit in mind. We think, “this shirt will look fabulous with my new jeans”, or “these heels will go with every dress I own” (not). We feel this rush of enthusiasm and desire to purchase whatever item it is and then, if you’re like me, you get home and it doesn’t quite go with that skirt the way that you had imagined. Or, maybe it matches perfectly, and you have discovered your new favorite outfit, which you then wear three times a week for two months (around different people of course) and soon you feel like you’ve over worn your beloved new shirt. Now where does it go? It gets shoved in the back of your closet with all of your other one hit wonders. Did you really wear out your new shirt? Probably not. You just wore it too many times in a row and now you feel like you need something else new, something fresh and delightful that will get you excited about getting dressed again.
I don’t know about you, but this is a reoccurring problem in my life. It’s a problem because I don’t have an endless cash flow that allows me to purchase a brand new outfit everyday. I have a strict spreadsheet budget that I live by, which is spectacular, but it doesn’t allow for a daily shopping spree. You see, or at least you think you see, others purchasing new things all of the time and you get stuck feeling like you’re the only one without a brand new candy apple red Kate Spade bag.
My mission is to find joy in the clothes that I have long forgotten about and style those items with basics that can pretty much go with anything. I am discovering items that I once loved, and choosing to love them again. Recycling my wardrobe has proven to be at times a little difficult, but finding those simple basics that every wardrobe needs has granted me great assistance.
If you have read many of my recent posts, you have probably noticed that I consistently wear my black GAP distressed jeans (just like in this post, ha). I am not kidding you, I probably wear them five days a week–I am obviously attached. I could go on and on about how they are the perfect fit and I never want any other jeans etc., etc., but my point is that I am finding new, fresh ways to wear them. For instance with my new Caralase denim tunic, which is unfortunately sold out, BUT they have many more adorable basics. A few of my favorite Caralase basics that are available online are the Funnel Neck Knit Draped Tunic  the Two Tone Baseball Draped Tunic  and the Solid Jersey Swing Midi Dress. I don’t know about you, but I need more basics in my life. I need more clothing items that I can mix and match with the countless older items in my wardrobe. So, hello basics–I’ve missed you!
