Denim & More Denim

Denim & More Denim

I received my first jean jacket, well the first one that I can remember, when I was twelve years old. It was love at first sight. I had desired a jean jacket for some time, and like many times at age twelve, an Old Navy sale had come to save my soul. Old Navy was a safe haven for any awkward tween, and I was no exception. What I thought was an incredible find at the time, was actually about three sizes too big, but I didn’t care. It was your typical semi-faded wash jean jacket, casual and perfect. What twelve year old can walk away from an oversized discount Old Navy item? Not me!
Somehow, I had convinced my mother to purchase me the beloved thing. Like all twelve year olds, I probably promised that I would wear and love it for the rest of my days, and I sort of did. I wore that thing until it was out of style–literally. You know those items of clothing that you just can’t part from? And your judgement of how trendy or in style they are begins to fade because your attachment to them is so strong? That was the epitome of this jean jacket. I wore it when it was too big, I wore it when it fit just right, and I also continued to wear it when it was way too small.
Despite my hazy sense of relevance for the jacket, I had a pent up love and devotion to it. It was like the sisterhood of the traveling pants, only the jacket only traveled with me, and I was the only one who thought it was cool. I didn’t get rid of it until I was a freshman in college. Crazy, I know! Although it was indisputably time to let it go, there was always a jean jacket sized hole in my heart, that is, until now. I am in love once again, but this time it’s J.Crew love, not Old Navy love. I’ve styled this jacket a few different ways to show that you can really wear it with anything–I’m obsessed.

First I paired it with my favorite moto sweatpants, a loose fitting top and the most comfortable shoes in the world–my Nike Roshes. I love this look because it’s so casual and comfy. If I can get away with wearing sweatpants while not looking like a complete hobo, I’ll do it. So, naturally, this is one of my go-to outfits.

Next, I styled the jacket with a simple pineapple tee, black distressed jeans, and my one and only linen wedges. This is your typical t-shirt and jeans combo with a little bit of added spice. It’s perfect for this end of summer-beginning of fall limbo that is currently happening.

Last, but certainly not least, I styled this brightly patterned midi skirt from Mikarose (this one is currently sold out, but they still have a ton of cute others) a fun graphic tee, and my go-to sandal wedges with the denim jacket. This look is fantastic because it’s the perfect combination of dressy meets casual. I love an outfit that I can feel comfortable both attending church in and running errands in.

I really feel like I will never be able to let go of this jacket. If you don’t have a denim jacket, you need one. It’s a must!
