While checking out at the grocery store today, our sweet cashier began loading some of our bags into our cart. As she was loading the cart, she smashed one bags that was underneath– Not a big deal at all. She immediately noticed that the bag in the bottom of the cart contained more fragile produce and began apologizing. You could see the doubt in her face as she said aloud that she wasn’t good at her job. My husband and I looked at each other with a bit of shock and assured her that she was doing a great job.
It may have been a seemingly small experience, but the doubt that she had about herself and her abilities really struck me. She was so kind and absolutely capable of her job and without knowing her, I would say that she is probably far more capable than what her job entails.
This experience got me thinking– How many times do we do that to ourselves? How many times do we doubt our capabilities and tear ourselves down?
I think that as women especially, it’s easy to tear ourselves down. It’s easy to say I’m not smart enough, pretty enough, talented enough because let’s face it, the media tells us that all of the time.
My hope is that rather than tearing ourselves down, and even those around us, that we switch gears and start lifting people up. I’ve made it a personal goal over the last few years to try new things and (drumroll please) stop being afraid to fail, which goes hand in hand with not doubting myself. Have the confidence to fail. Sounds weird, I know. But, if you are confident enough to be okay with failing, you’ll learn from your “failure” and it won’t really be a failure at all. You see what I mean?
Speaking of trying new things… I’ve been trying out the T3 Styling Wand with my new hair. Although it’s nothing super crazy, I am trying something new!
I’m still trying to get the hang of it (I haven’t used a curling iron for years), but I really like it. If you’re sick of what you have, you might want to give this a whirl. It’s neat because if you buy it in the set you get three different sizes that are super easy to switch out when you’re trying to attain different types of curls.
That was kind of a long rant, I know, but I hope that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
This T3 Styling Wand was gifted to me. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
