The City Of Love

The City Of Love

They don’t call it the city of love for nothing. Paris is, in my experience, one of the most romantic places in the world. Okay, so maybe it’s just Hollywood conditioning me to believe that Paris is a place where love blooms, but hey it’s working. The city is just so charming. My eyes were glued to the beautiful architecture our entire time there. The best part? Hands down, the Eiffel Tower.
In my naiveness, I did not realize the immensity of the Eiffel Tower–that thing is huge! As we were walking around the grounds, and I know this is super cheesy, but I literally had butterflies. It’s something that I’ve always wanted to see, a definite bucket list item. I don’t know how else to describe it but to say that it was a dream come true. As we inched closer and closer to the tower, and my excitement rose, I felt like a little girl in a perfect Hollywood film. I had my favorite person in the entire world on my arm strolling through the city of love. Whoa, hold up. Is this real life? If I didn’t have pictures to prove it, I would probably still think it was just a dream.

In addition to my fantastical experience at the Eiffel Tower, we had a marvelous time at the Louvre. I am a huge history enthusiast, so being surrounded by so many pieces of art with such historical value was overwhelmingly awesome. It’s a double wammie. In addition to being surrounded by history, you are also standing in it. The massive museum, once an operating palace, has a rich history in and of itself. Plus, seeing the Mona Lisa in real life was a cherry on top of the whole thing.

Although there were no signs of Quasimodo, Notre Dame was magnificent. I had never before stood in something so old. It was quite neat to see. In many areas of the cathedral, restorations were being made. You could see dark colorless splotches of wall covered in what looked like soot, be restored to vibrant paintings that you would never know were even there. There was something magical about it. Hundreds of years of dirt and grime hiding beautiful and faithful paintings carefully being uncovered to reveal what was underneath. It was enough to make anyone smile.

Although we hardly slept (the time difference through us way off), Paris was such a treat. Each day we dragged our heavy and tired feet through town exploring every inch that we could. Who knows how many miles we walked, enough to send my feet into shock and make me believe that they might actually fall off. Despite my overworked feet, Paris was the perfect start to a perfect vacation.
