18 Family Friendly Fall Activities

We all love fall right? The colors of the leaves, the layers upon layers of sweaters & jackets, and the warm, cozy feeling of a hot cup of cocoa. But let’s be real– As the weather gets colder and we snuggle up more it can be easy to fall into the never leave your house routine. The colder it gets, the more effort it takes to get outside. I get it. But going out and enjoying what’s left of reasonable weather will do you well! That’s why I’ve compiled a list of family friendly fall activities that will get you out of the house this season.

Karlee Andrews of Madam Andrews at the pumpkin patch with her daughter

Pumpkin patchin’. I always LOVED going to the pumpkin patch as a kid. I had so much fun picking out my own pumpkin! We’re carrying on the tradition in our house to go to the patch and pick our pumpkins every year.

Hay ride ya’ll. These are usually at the pumpkin patch and it’s fun for kids. Jo has been on two hay rides this year and she gets sooo excited. It’s adorable!

Corn maze-it. Again, often times these are at the pumpkin patch. The kid ones are fun to do with the littles and of course there’s always the haunted ones if you’re into that too!

Caramel dem apples. We did this a lot as a kid and I really enjoyed it. We stuck popsicle sticks in the apples and dipped them in the melted caramel. My favorite part was getting to pick my toppings to stick on. I mean, the possibilities are endless– Sprinkles, crushed candy bars, peanuts, m&m’s….

Fall festivalsss. I love festivities! Anything festive & I’m in! Go out and find seasonal festivals in your area. If you’re in Utah, check out Gardner Village. They have all kinds of activities going on this time of year.

Decorate your home. I find it fun to have a festive home. It makes things feel like, well, home. To me, there’s just a happy feeling to having a seasonally decorated home. And it’s fun to do as a family!

Go to Target & raid their seasonal section. Speaking of decorating… Target has some of the best decorations around! They have the best dollar section in the front of their stores with all kinds of stuff for decorating, crafting, etc. You can let each kiddo pick out a $1 item that way they feel invested in decorating with you!

Get crafty. Fall is the perfect time to get your craft on. This year my goals is to make a cute wreath for our door. Hopefully it won’t be a Pinterest fail…

Shop fall sales. I love a sale. Liiiike, love. Aside from Black Friday, fall sales are probably my favorite. You’ll find good sales happening here, here, & here right now!

Go leaf peeping. We love doing this! We like to drive through the canyon and see all of the leaves change color on the mountains. It’s absolutely beautiful. Go through the Starbucks drive-through, hop in the car & find a place to peek at the leaves!

Whip out your cookbook. Okay, I’m no Betty Crocker. But there is something about fall that makes me want to cook… And bake. Maybe part of it is that we’ve been watching the Great British Baking Show? Anyway, I’ve been experimenting a little with my Magnolia cookbook and it is gooood.

Toast pumpkin seeds. This one is kinda messy, but totally fun! When I was a kid we’d gut out pumpkins as we carved them and pick out all of the pumpkin seeds. Then all you have to do is rinse them, spread them out on a cookie sheet, sprinkle some slat & pepper, & bake! They are a tasty fall snack fo sho.

Staycation in the mountains. We have lots of mountains near us, but if you don’t, you can go find a nice spot to have a little staycation. It doesn’t have to be anything extravagant. But sometimes just staying 30 minutes away from where you live can be the getaway you needed.

Go apple picking. Find an orchard that will let you pick apples & then go make a pie! Well, you can cut out the pie part if you want, but I’ve never made one, so this is my year!

Fire it up. Have a fall bonfire & roast marshmallows for your hot cocoa! If you don’t have a fire pit at your house find a friend that does. It’s worth it!

Perfect your soup making skills. I love love love making soup in the fall. My favorite is a spicy sausage potato soup. You can find the recipe here.

Christmas list. Start making your list people! I start doing research about now for things that I want and for things that I want to get for other people. That way once Black Friday comes around, you’ll be prepared & ready to shop the best deals!

Fall hike. Get out & goooo. Bundle the kiddos up, dust off your stroller and go for a hike! It’s nice to just get some fresh air out in nature.

Well guys, I’m all out of ideas! Hopefully you’ll find at least one thing on this list that you can do with your fam this season.

Happy fall!

xoxo,

Karlee
