Okay, so how the heck do you get into NYFW? Well, that’s the million dollar question isn’t it!
It’s actually a lot more simple than you’d expect. It’s a ton of prep work, don’t get me wrong, but it’s totally doable!
So, the magical equation?
Research. Who are you interested in seeing? Why? Take a look at the schedule and prioritize where you want to go. Find the designers that pique your interest. Bada bing, bada boom.
Reach out. This is what is the most time consuming. You’ll need to do a lot of research to find the right contacts that will be able to get you into the shows that you want to see. For me, this took hours and hours of Googling. But it’s a necessary evil to get in! Once you have the appropriate contacts, email away! Be clear on what you’re offering them and make sure that you deliver!
Plan, plan, plan. I admittedly started planning a little late this year, but everything worked out and I had an amazing time. My first piece of advice? Check the weather. You will be ubering and running around outside so don’t wear something that’s way too uncomfortable or doesn’t allow you to move around. You’ll want to look fabulous of course (and you will) but also remember to be realistic. The weather this year was mid 70s, so we got really lucky. I’ve heard of other years being in the mid 90s, which sounds treacherous… Just make sure you’re packing for the right kind of weather! Also, make your schedule beforehand. Know where you’re going. There’s so much going on, so you have to be organized and prepared! Annnd don’t forget to book your hotel and flight as soon as you can because prices go waaaay up if you wait too long to book!
Most of all have fun and be you. One of the best things about NYFW is that everyone is doing their thing and expressing themselves through fashion in a way that’s comfortable to them. What I mean by that is, don’t be intimidated. Dress how you want to dress! Wear what makes you feel beautiful and amazing. You don’t have to be dressed in Gucci from head to toe (although that would be amazing). Just do your thaaaang girl!
I hope to see you at NYFW next year! You better believe I’ll be there 😉
