Neutral Nursery for Baby Boy

Transitioning our nursery from girl to boy has been my favorite project that I’ve done in a looong time. It was so much fun to put together!

I knew I didn’t want to spend a ton of money on this project. No paint, no wallpaper, etc. Just switching out a few things here and there. We even kept the same layout because that’s what feels the most functional to me. Even though we didn’t make any major changes, the room feels completely different and I LOVE it.

Starting out, I had a few different ideas, but ultimately I knew that I wanted to keep baby boy’s nursery pretty neutral. I’d been Pinteresting nursery ideas for boys since we found out the gender and I kept getting drawn to the same thing– Neutral nurseries.

Although I didn’t want to do a complete overhaul of the room, there were a few things that I knew I wanted to change. Here’s the basic list that I came up with–

Things to keep the same:

  • Room color
  • Dresser
  • Lamp
  • Picture frames
  • Bookshelves
  • Baskets

Things to switch:

  • Crib
  • Glider
  • Rug
  • Decor
  • Side table
  • Prints
  • Light Fixture

Once I made my list and got a good feel for what I wanted the room to look like, I made a few mockup design plans and landed on these ones. Thankfully they ended up translating really well to the real deal!

With all of the design ideas floating around in my head, I had to get organized! The mockup designs were a first step, but now I needed to dig in and actually find the pieces that I wanted. I’d been seeing a lot of nursery inspiration with black cribs for boy’s rooms, so a black crib was high on my list. It fits with my neutral theme and I really love the clean, modern look of them.

I ended up finding this one from Davinci Baby and it is absolutely perfect. It’s affordable, only $199, and a really timeless design. We also decided that we wanted to switch out the rocker for a glider. This was a request from Jono. For some reason the rocker drives him nuts, ha. I didn’t mind it, but he was pushing for a change so I started doing a little research. I found this glider at Davinci Baby as well and fell in love. I can’t even tell you how happy I am that we made the switch! It’s super comfortable and again, a design that won’t go out of style and that isn’t going to break the bank.

Another piece that I knew that I wanted to switch out was the rug. Even though I love Jo’s old dusty pink rug, it was time to say goodbye. I found this one at Boutique Rugs and I love it so much. It is PERFECT. I think it really helps bring the room together. You can use code MADAM60 for 60% off of your purchase from Boutique Rugs. I’ve had several rugs from them and I’ve never been disappointed!

I searched and searched and searched for the right prints and ended up landing on these ones. I really, really like them. And they are super affordable! I just printed mine out at Costco because they have really good quality and aren’t as expensive as some other places. I’ved linked the prints for you below!
